Agree this type of site is a long time coming. Adult leagues are doing very well in Houston and this type of support is much appreciated. The site should probably include the Memorial City leagues link in the Adult Hockey column on the right. City Hall’s visitor center would also benefit from this type of information (probably handouts!). They communicate with companies and families considering a move to Houston. Hockey is indeed an option for new families!

Coach Pat Cassidy – Remembered and Honored
On October 20, 2008, the ISHL and the Houston Hockey community suffered a great loss. Coach Pat Cassidy passed away suddenly doing what he enjoyed most, coaching hockey.
Coach Cassidy coached various teams over the past ten years, including the ISHL Austin and Seven Lakes Varsity teams and the ISHL Austin and Avalanche Prep teams. Coach Cassidy will be sincerely missed by all in the ISHL. Jersey patches for his team and helmet stickers honoring him are being prepared and will be provided to all teams and coaches in the league.
His life will be celebrated at 1:00 PM Friday, October 24, 2008 at Earthman Funeral Directors-Hunter’s Creek, 8303 Katy Freeway Houston, Texas
Pat…we are going to miss you so much and hockey in Houston will not be the same without you.
Cmon, everyone knows Im a better skater and shooter than half these kids. All I need is a shot, Josh. Can you get me on the roster? Surely I could take these chumps out. Cmon, Joshy Boy, be like my boy Josh, be a man, and help a guy achieve his dream. A man can still dream, right Joshy?
Do you have nay Summer clinics and/or camps available?
Thanks,
Judy
Hi, My name is Paul Hanna. I, like so many other people
in houston have been watching the Aeros season and I’m very excited
to see them in the play-offs for the Calder Cup. I was however
extremely dismayed that not one Houston news website, with the
exception of the Houston Chronicle even mentioned the
Aeros at all. I sent this e-mail to KPRC,KHOU,KTRK, and KRIV.
• Wow, I can not believe there is no mention of the Aero’s
Victory over the Admirals last night. Not even in your
sport section. This is the reason Houston loses
sports teams. There in the playoffs for the Calder Cup.
If some one on the Texens, Astros, or Rockets even scratches
their nose you write a couple of pages on it, but you can’t even
make a mention of a team that is actually in the playoffs.
there are a lot of hockey fans in Houston and there would
probably be more if you and others like you wouldn’t
snub them. Give credit where it is due.
I encourage you and everybody and anybody you can tell to
either copy this e-mail and send it with their name attached or compose
their own e-mail. let’s try to get this team the recognition they deserve
for all their extremely hard work.
Thank you for your time,
-Paul Hanna-

I agree with you 100%. I can’t believe it! Hockey is a great sport! My grandson loves it and attends games with me. He has a love for it and would like nothing more than a chance to play.I believe if positive attention was given to this sport we would have more kids interested. Or, at least if it had any attention…It is a game to be proud of and to support. The media should be ashamed. We are going for the Calder Cup for goodness sake!!!
I too am disappointed in the lack of TV coverage of the Aeros playoff run this year. Local news seems only focused on the Rockets playoff run (of course), however I do think an AHL team that is in the 2nd round deserves more airtime. I emailed all the local stations (I have noticed that KPRC 2 is a station that has increased their coverage of the Aeros from no mention of game 7 vs. Peoria to showing highlights of the 1st 3 games vs. Milwaukee).
We are lifelong Flyers fans living in Houston, and have adopted the Aeros as our local hockey team…something I wish the local media in the 10th largest TV market would do.
I’m also disappointed about local media coverage, or non-coverage, as is the case.
I emailed KPRC 13 not long ago when they reported that the Aeros had won one of their playoff games with the Peoria “ICEMEN.” I couldn’t believe that this so-called news outlet failed to correctly identify the “Rivermen” as the Aeros’ opponents.
I was also extremely disappointed that, at the bottom of their ABC-13 home page, they list numerous “Local Teams,” and the Aeros aren’t even a part of this list. In my email to ABC-13, I suggested that it would be appreciated if they could, at minimum, provide a link to the Aeros home page, and recommended that they contact the Aeros organization for information they might need to enhance their coverage. Needless to say, I didn’t even receive the courtesy of a reply.
It seems as if most of Houston is unaware or apathetic to the fact that our city has a top-rated professional hockey team. I’m so thankful that 1070 AM broadcasts Aeros games, and hope that Aeros fans support the businesses that support the Aeros through advertising. When I do business with any of the aforementioned advertisers, I make a point of letting them know I’m spending my money at their businesses because of their support of the Aeros.
Hockey is the ONLY organized sport I follow. It would be nice to see this awesome sport covered with the hearty enthusiasm it deserves!
PS – Like Corey Lefkof, I, too, have noticed an increase in Aeros coverage on Channel 2. I don’t know if it’s because NBC has been broadcasting NHL Stanley Cup playoff games on week-end afternoons or what, but I love it. For this reason, and this reason alone, I have chosen to watch Channel 2 as my primary local news source. By the way Corey, welcome to Houston!!! It’s always nice to have another hockey fan among us! GO Aeros! GO Flyers!
I am a goalie moving from Canada. I have been playing for 28 years and am looking for a very compettive league.

I have kept an eye on hockey in the media here in Houston since the “old” Aeros (circa 1978) and there really has NEVER been anything appropriate coverage of this sport… especially one that has brought home so many trophies. To make the playoffs so many times and NOT be covered… that’s just foolish.
Aeros hockey is by far the best professional sport for the money… and a heck of alot more exciting.
I can’t even find the out of town playoff games on tv. PacSat has been here in Houston and Milwaukee has been getting their games on the tube. Why can’t we?
As a recent AEROS fan, I’ve caught the hockey addiction after just two games. I think both native and transplanted Texans would flock to these games with just a little exposure from the local media. A clip of highlights like “The hit, check, or goal of the week” would be enough to peak the interest of your average contact sports fan. Hockey has the perfect mix of finesse, violent contact, and the unbridled raw emotion from both the players and fans.
Ask any casual or even die-hard Houston sports fan if they know high school hockey teams play in Houston. Most don’t. Tell them that there are over 400 participants (counting coaches) and 22 teams in the ISHL (Prep and Varsity), and they are amazed. And yet even the Chronicle, which at least knows that hockey exists, goes entire seasons without any mention of the ISHL. The various travel teams from Houston, which have often had great seasons against competition from the Metroplex and other cities, even nationally, also get no acknowledgment from the Chron.
We recently moved to Houston from MI and were delighted to find a youth and high school program! It made the transition much easier for our 16 year old son.
I have talked with several parents from our high school who are not aware of the hockey program in our school. Oddly enough, when we first visited our high school the counselor insisted that we did not have a hockey program. I had to assure her that we did because I had already talked with the coach.
I believe the only mention I recall hearing about the Aeros was over the radio. A paid commercial, no doubt. After living in “Hockeytown” we are stunned that not only the Western Conference finals, but even the Stanley Cup Playoffs don’t rate an honorable mention during the regular TV news Sports coverage.
Sad but true, the Houston media doesn’t give hockey any coverage. I too have emailed, called and written about this issue and like the others, received no reply. Perhaps hockey fans should unite and bombard the 4 major tv stations with emails and phone calls demanding coverage!
I suggest we all start in September and maybe, just maybe, by the end of next season, they – the local stations – will finally give hockey the respect it so deserves!
Yeah hi-yas
Recently moved back here after 15 years away, great to see all the new rinks built, but where can a guy go for a pick-up game or an adult clinic? The rinks don’t seem to know how to answer the basic questions when I call, and the guy at Sharpstown basically told me to screw off when I called to inquire (that guy had issues. Seriously).
Anyway, any info would be appreciated, not able to join a team at this time, but would love to skate. Thanx.
Yo
Anyone know who to contact to find out what’s going on at Memorial City on a nightly basis? Willowbrook Sugarland and Clear Lake all have online calendars so I can see drop-in games scheduled, but at MC you have to CALL and talk to someone who has no idea what’s going on that night because their shift will be over by then.
